Light Opera Works Announces its 2009 Season

Evanston, IL: Light Opera Works’ 2009 season will begin with Stephen Sondheim’s A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC (June 5 – 14) on Light Opera Works’ Main Stage, followed by MY FAIR LADY (August 15 – 30).  The company will present the musical C’EST LA VIE  (October 4 - November 15) on the Second Stage in the fall and end the season with Gilbert and Sullivan’s THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE (December 26 – January 3).  The Light Opera Works Box Office is located at 927 Noyes St. in Evanston. Story:  In A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC romantic complications abound when a group of husbands, wives, lovers and rivals gather for a weekend in the country in Sondheim’s romantic farce.

Story:  In THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, a nurse’s linguistic fluke causes the child Frederic to be apprenticed to a band of pirates. As the apprenticeship ends, twenty-one year old Fredrick leaves his violent, but loving pirates to fall in love and wed a Major-General's daughter.  Confusion follows as the pirates chase after their loved apprentice and gather their own Major-General’s daughters to wed on the way.

Story: In C’EST LA VIE, Dominique and Fatiguee are down on their luck chanteuses at a fading café in 1950 Paris. Forced to sing the same Edith Piaf set every night, the pair scheme to have their boss "conveniently detained" by the police so that they can finally perform their own material—if only for one night.
